We've all seen the Instagram and Pinterest photos of the most Luxurious Fluffy Beds that look like they're right out of a magazine. Would you believe me if I told you that people actually make this happen in real life? Not only that, but it isn't as hard as you might think.

Studies have shown that making your bed first thing in the morning is an essential part of starting your day off on the right foot. It not only makes your room look neat and tidy, but it can also give you a sense of accomplishment and motivation to tackle the rest of your day. If you can make your bed look like you sleep at the Ritz Carlton every night then your productivity levels will sky rocket through the roof and you'll become a millionaire practically overnight. Ok, so that last part isn't true. Or at least I don't think it is. There's only one way to find out!

How to Make Your Bed Like a Pro

Let's start with the Essentials Of Making Your Bed. I'm going to lay this all out in steps because there might be some people out there (ahem, like my children) who don't fully know the different steps to making a bed. Believe it or not, throwing a blanket over your mattress and calling it good isn't the best tactic (I'm looking at you 16 year old son). Here's a list of a few basic supplies you'll need to make your bed like a pro:

There's one other item I would recommend, and this one might be a little sensitive. Every well made bed really should have a Mattress Protector on it. I know at first you might feel like a 5 year old again, but once you're old enough to purchase a new mattress and you realize how insanely expensive they are, you're going to want to protect that baby at all costs. They make fabric breathable mattress covers that you can't even feel. So put your big kid britches on and protect your investment!

Now that you have your supply list, here are the basic steps to making your bed like a pro:

  • Prepare Your Mattress - The first step in making your bed is to prepare your mattress. Start by stripping off any old sheets or bedding, and fluffing your pillows. If you have a memory foam mattress or topper, give it a quick shake to redistribute the foam. You should also vacuum your mattress every now and then to keep things fresh. After doing this, add your Mattress Protector.

  • Add Your Fitted Sheet - The next step is to add your fitted sheet. Start by laying it out over your mattress, making sure the corners are aligned with the corners of your mattress. Smooth out any wrinkles or creases, tucking the excess fabric under the mattress.

  • Add Your Flat Sheet - The next step is to add your flat sheet. Lay it out over your fitted sheet, making sure the top edge of the sheet is aligned with the top edge of your mattress. Tuck the sheet under the mattress at the foot of the bed, and along the sides, leaving the top edge loose. This will allow you to fold the sheet back over your comforter or duvet later.

  • Add Your Comforter or Duvet - The next step is to add your comforter or duvet. Start by laying it out over your flat sheet, making sure the top edge of the comforter or duvet is aligned with the top edge of your mattress. Smooth out any wrinkles or creases, and make sure the sides and foot of the comforter or duvet hang evenly over the sides and foot of your bed.

  • Add Your Pillows - The next step is to add your pillows. Start with your sleeping pillows, placing them against the headboard or wall. You can also use pillow shams or decorative pillows to add some extra style to your bed. Place these in front of your sleeping pillows, using odd numbers like three or five for a more visually aesthetic look.

  • Fold Back Your Flat Sheet - The final step in making your bed like a pro is to fold back your flat sheet over your comforter or duvet. This creates a layered and luxurious look to your bedding. Start by folding the top edge of your flat sheet down about six to eight inches, exposing your comforter or duvet. Tuck the sides and foot of the flat sheet under the sides and foot of your mattress, creating a crisp and polished look. Voila! You have now successfully made your bed like a boss.

How to Make Your Bed Look Fluffy

But, how do I make my bed fluffy? How do I make it look like my bed is made out of a thousand marshmallows? I'm glad you asked young apprentice. There are a couple tricks once you've mastered the fine art of making your bed that will take things to the next level. Here are a few tips:

  • Buy pillow inserts that are 2" larger than your pillow covers - this will give you that full pillow appearance instead of sad and saggy

  • The larger the throw pillows the better - larger than 22" is best

  • Use down inserts - a down alternative will also work fine if you have allergies

  • Layer two duvet inserts for extra fluff - stuff both inserts in your duvet cover for instant luxury

  • Toss a Chunky Knit Throw Blanket at the end of your bed - this will add that extra touch of coziness and will also come in handy when you need a quick cat nap but don't want to mess up your awesome looking bed :)

I hope this blog post has been helpful! By following these simple steps, you can make your bed like a pro, and create a cozy fluffy bed that's both comfortable and beautiful.
